My love for photography started at a super early age, I remember asking for a Hello Kitty camera when I was like 8! I take a million photos of every occasion, I am obsessed. Everyone knows me as the picture taker for any event, as in “we don’t need to bring our cameras, Kim is coming”. I love capturing secret moments, I love trying to line up the perfect lights and angle, and I love being able to see peoples personalities just in one still frame. Here’s the problem, I take soooo many pictures, but never print them off, and the ones that I use to print ( before digital) lay, to this day, in a thousand different envelopes, in 20 different boxes. So, after returning home form our recent trip to Michigan, I made a promise to myself, that I was going to actually enjoy some of these ( 637 ) pictures that I took!!! So I did!!
Our bathroom, is bare, its Navajo White, with White Wainscoting, and remember, its a rental..sigh… I actually don’t mind the neutral palette, but we needed pictures desperately. When I took these pictures of Liam playing in his grammas fountain, I knew they would be framers, and I knew I wanted them in the bathroom. Take a look.
I started with a trip to Ikea, I picked up (4) of these
White 8″x10″ frames for $2.99 EACH!!!
I printed (9) 5″x7″ fountain pictures, so I could lay
them out, and see which (4 ) I wanted.
I figured out that the 8″x10″ frames were way too big to stack, I would need to group them into a cluster of 4.
I decided on the perfect 4 and decided to get started hanging!!
Imagine my disappointment, when only 10 mins into it, I KNEW this was NOT going to work..not only that, my camera, that takes awesome pics, decided to not work! I’m not sure whats wrong with it, but I am desperately searching for my little point and shoot ( with no luck) so here, is a pic I took with my phone..do YOU see why this wont work???
That’s right, its completely off center from the toilet..this may not bother some people, and I have to be honest, I knew when planning, that it wasn’t going to be symmetrical, but sometimes I love that…it was for sure a case of just trying to make it work. It doesn’t. I almost didn’t post this, because its always fun to post a completely finished project that you are so happy with, to give people great ideas, but the truth is, in design, you always make mistakes, you just have to problem solve a little. It wasn’t a mistake to buy the big frames, or hope that I would love the off balance look, my mistakes were
1. Not having back up smaller frames ( I knew that if the bigs didn’t work, I could stack littles
straight up..but I didn’t buy them)
2. The best thing to do ( in my experience) when un sure of hanging anything, is taping off ( with painters tape,) the exact size of the picture, before making holes in the wall…a rookie mistake, and I am guilty.
So I am now going BACK to ikea, buying 5 of the smaller white frames, and coming home to remedy my mistake learning experience 🙂 Stay Tuned!!
Please tell me you have projects that didn’t turn out exactly how you hoped, but you fixed the problem and love them more than ever??
Ps. I already decided that i am going to use the bigger frames in the kitchen above my sink, with a few floral prints that i have recently purchased!!

ummm…where do I begin?! The stand out project was our bedroom in our old condo. It was a brownstone building with like 10-12 ft walls. I got it in my head to do a faux painting treatment. I got it my head to do a rich plumb color. First, it took me like 3 months to finish it. I had brushed it in a cross pattern. Second, my hand almost fell off. Third, the plumb color was WAY overwhelming on the tall walls. I actually felt anxious sleeping in the room. It was way too intense. I had a professional come in and paint over it. Which was painful b/c of all the time it took me to get finish it. Paint and learn!

Hi Kim! Your pictures are amazing! I know I have had projects like that…my last house I painted the walls in what I thought was a light tan but they turned out gray…it looked awful (and they were vaulted ceilings) sooooo I had to redo it…just little ole me and my ginormica gorlilla ladder. What a pain but totally worth it.

I should also mention, I did brain storm about other solutions…moving the towel ring to the other side ( I can’t I have actual big towel hooks their) and just moving the pics up above the hand towel ring so I can center them, but it then makes the top 2 pictures go way above my medicine cabinet and that looks weird too.

This post is great! It is nice to know the “behind the scenes” where things don’t always go as planned.
