Oh my gosh! I cant believe its actually been an entire week since we’ve last connected!! Well, the reason is, Design Thoughts is now a viable, happening design business!! I jumped right in, here in Nashville, and I decided to get serious about what I love. Its taken some vulnerability, some searching and some major meditation, but its happening! Here are the things that I decided I absolutely love.
1. Being a mama, and a wife (of course)
2. Connecting women ( Like minded women to create support for eachother)
3. Interior Design
4. Writing
Here are the things I’m not so excited about..
1. Not being with Liam
2. Not doing what I love / working but not loving it.
My dream, was to create my own hours, so I can be present with my son for the next year, until he starts school, but also honor the things, OTHER than mama-hood, that feed my soul! So I decided to go out on my own, and advertise my interior design/styling services!! I did it with intention, and have now started with my very first client under my brand of “Design Thoughts”!! I am currently being paid to shop for amazing antiques that have meaning!! ( hello DREAM!) On top of that, I also reached out to a local yoga studio, to see if I could rent space to hold A Sisterhood Spirit Circle each week, well, they were totally into it, and now, each Tuesday, I will be gathering women in circle, to weave a web of support! That is happening under “LIFE.designed” ( for more info, you can visit www.kimberlysalter.com) , and I also still co- facilitate “Moms Just Being” ( a Facebook community for mamas) began a new blog called LIFE.designed with a matching Facebook Page, and I still have Design Thoughts Blog and Facebook page 🙂 whew !! Things are ROLLIN here in NASHVILLE!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway..I realize this is getting long winded!! MY WHOLE POINT to this post is to tell you to go after what you dream of! If its going out on your own as a designer or an interior stylist..maybe I can help. I want to share with those of you out there, that are thinking of going out on your own, and have no idea where to start with pricing. I searched ALL OVER for a starting point , and NO ONE was sharing the info..its like some little secret, and I don’t get that. Of course, this pricing is based on my experience, so you may need to adjust it a little (Higher or Lower) but at least it gets the conversation started. Don’t let pricing stop you in your tracks! I have had my own clients in the past, (as side work) and I have been doing interior design for 17 years (always for firms) . I have a degree in Interior Design also, but I think if you are good at what you do, this is a great place to start as far as pricing goes. This is the sheet I hand to my clients after my first meeting with them, which by the way, I offer a free 1 hour consultation. Thats what Im comfortable with, I know other designers that charge for a consult, and thats great too, whatever works for you.
