HI!!! Happy Thursday!! For the last few weeks, I have been working on organizing my desk area here in my house! Now that I have an actual viable Interior Styling and Design businesses ( It still blows my mind to write that!! yay!) I needed to update my workspace!!!
Styling tips that work for me when styling A desk area:
- Add color and light if you don’t have access to natural light.
- Add color or pattern, even if the pattern is subtle.
- Stack books that have meaning to you, so you can reach for them when you feel overwhelmed.
- Have a specific place to file, store organize work related papers ( I have a file cabinet in the closet)
- Have a cork board or a way to pin up ideas, or inspiration no matter your profession.
- Family pics always work for me, but not for some..I use mine to keep me grounded or “rooted” you can also add life, meaning plants or flowers.
- Add pieces that have meaning, or a story, if you need a break, you can reminisce for a moment without leaving your desk..unless you NEED to leave your desk..then by all means..get off that CHAIR!!! 🙂
Here is what it looked like before! A dark knotty pine built in desk. Just as a reminder, we a renting this home in Nashville ( see how that all started here) and this is the one room, our new landlords asked us not to transform with paint! So the dark wood stays!!
This is my inspiration board and its still half empty, I have sample fabrics on their way for one of my current clients, and I want to add them to the side so I can figure out the rest of her scheme!
Very occasionally, my husband also uses this desk area for work related stuff, not always, but enough that I wanted to add at least a touch of inspiration for him also. The 2 yellow and white statues, are miniatures of the markers that are used along Alpe D’huez in France,(think: Tour de France) They represent My husbands first trip to Europe, when he cycled the Alpe D’Huez!! A picture of the younger version of us, and “bespoke: The Handbuilt Bicycle” a show that he helped curate in New York.
I’m really happy with how it turned out, and feel so much better when I sit here!! I hope you are all having a FAB week!! Tonight we are off to the Frist Museum for an exhibit opening, cocktail and dinner party!! I cant even imagine what it will feel like to go on a date with my husband!! 😉
XO
Kim
