It doesn’t matter how small the project is….as long as it has meaning!!I have been starting tiny projects around my home lately, I think because Spring has finally sprung, or maybe its because I am back in the design field after being home with my baby for his first year, and I am constantly being shown inspiring new things in the design world. Either way, I have the bug to get the winds of design change a’movin …One place I have wanted to give a little TLC to is the shelf above our TV( I said it was small!) …I had some things on it, but it was sparse, and I wanted to fill it with things that have meaning to our family!!

This is the before picture, a few meaningful things, but as I said, pretty sparse..I wanted to add some color, and I also wanted to add some of the professional photos of Liam, that Lori Kade took this winter!
The orange framed photo, is so special to us, because I had just found out I was pregnant that week, I was literally like, 5 weeks pregnant. We were having dinner with my BFF, Kisha and her husband. Every time I look at this picture, I think of the joy, and excitement we had that IT FINALLY WORKED!! I got the frame at Home Goods for $6.00!!
The Hourglass I found at TJ.Maxx for $7.50!! Can you believe?! and the photo behind it, is one of my favorites of G and L, taken right after L was born, its just such a sweet picture, and it takes me right back to those first hours of new baby bliss…
This camera is important to me, because my mom loved it, she loved photography so much, and I remember when she decided to take photography classes, and bought this camera. She was so excited to learn, and took endless rolls of pictures of me and my sister… My mom passed away from brain cancer in October of 2000, and this camera, has been with me every since.
The photo of G is one taken last year on his big “work” trip to France, he was riding Alpe D’huez
a big personal accomplishment for him. Then of course, the beautiful picture of L!! Lori did an amazing job!
This was going to be my after, but as I looked at it, I decided to add just a little more. |
I decided to add the sand dollar and coral shell that G got while diving in The Bahamas! He brought them back for me after snorkeling for 4 hours..a GREAT vacation!! and put the tall iron dog sculpture back, to add a little height…I will still be adding more I think, but for now, I am happy…I think…ahh the evolution of creating 😉 Just kidding…I realize this is just an Ikea shelf above our Tv, but its still fun 🙂
Now, we have a shelf filled with meaningful objects, and I love the mixture of color and texture. Like I said, this was a small project off my “To Do” list, which I am thinking I will still add to, maybe a tall candle or vase behind the orange frame, but our living room is living just a little more now, because of it 😉
